We Just Want to Know Why?… Struggle Bun

Last week, J. Crew published a black model in one of their Madewell ad campaigns wearing a struggle bun. Anyone who has ever grown out a shortcut can understand the infamous struggle bun.

Black Twitter went crazy over the incorrect styling but most people really just wanted an explanation!

Earlier this year, Victoria’s Secret committed a similar offense. In multiple photos on the VS Pink website, a black model was posted with unkempt hair and people all over social media were livid! it’s not a struggle bun but more like a struggle braid.

“Disrespect. She probably could have done a better job herself. These stylists should be trained on all hair types, not just Becky straight.”

If you think the J Crew and Victoria’s Secret black hair debacles are bad, imagine getting your hair ruined on live tv.

Unfortunately, the black model pictured below got her hair destroyed on the Today Show. The top picture is the model before her makeover. The bottom picture is the model after her makeover, or should we say makeunder? Struggle bun strikes again!!

4 Ways to Break up With Your Hairstylist… The Right Way!

Your Hair hasn't looked good in months... Has your Hairstylist been slacking off and you don't know how to tell them? Click to know the 4 Ways to Break up with your Hairstylist and remain cordial!

Do you want to break up with your hair stylist because things aren’t working out?

Are you afraid your stylist will take it the wrong way?

Scroll down for the 4 Ways to Break up With Your Hairstylist.

1. Try not to insult them.

Your Hair hasn't looked good in months... Has your Hairstylist been slacking off and you don't know how to tell them? Click to know the 4 Ways to Break up with your Hairstylist and remain cordial!

Most times our hair stylists are not just our stylists.  There are also our confidant, therapist, and our friend. Breaking up with a stylist often means that you are at risk of losing more than just one person who does your hair. This is especially true if your stylist has been in your life for many years. Hairstylists tend to play multiple roles in many women’s lives.

With that being said, you want to make sure that you explain to them what’s not working while complementing their talents. For example, do you have a stylist who tends to never get your color right? Well, you can start by complimenting how pretty the color is, but it’s just not the desired shade you were looking for. Let them know how talented they are, but their talents just don’t seem to work for you. When you put it that way it makes perfect sense. Not every stylist will suit the needs of every client.

2. Be clear and specific.

Explain to your stylist what went wrong, and how you feel. Let them know that although you appreciate their effort and time, it seems like what you want may be different than what they’re used to providing. Again, you want to make it more about the service and your needs.Try not to speak in an accusatory tone. Never make your stylist feel like they lack talent. If you insult their talent, you may end up losing them as a friend.

3. Make sure you listen to what they have to say.

Most stylists will go the extra mile because they don’t  want to lose a client. This is especially true if you’re a long-term client. They’ll say whatever they need to say in order to keep you. Make sure you listen to what they have to say. This will show your stylist that you respect them. Once they have said their piece, let them know that you heard what they were saying, but you think it is best if you try to find someone else who can satisfy your needs. Again, try not to insult your stylist, but just make it more about your needs and the fact that they haven’t been met.

4. Listen to your instinct and be firm.

There are plenty of horror stories out there about the issues women face when they give their hairstylist too many chances. For example, some women have gotten relaxers and by the end of the service they lost most of their hair or they had scabs. Other women have received unblended haircuts, and some even had weaves installed by their stylists, and now they have bald spots. There are so many occurrences of stylists not performing the service in the manner that the client desires. Gurus, it is one thing to give your stylist multiple chances if you did not like the look they gave you. It is another thing if your stylist is negatively impacting your health. You must be firm and tell the stylist what you believe is best for you.You know yourself better than anyone. No stylist can argue with that.

The only time you should really be concerned about trying to break up with a stylist in a nice way is if you plan on keeping that individual round in the future or if you want to end on good terms. If you are a woman who is very upset with your stylist, and you have no intention of staying friends with them –  you do not need to follow a nice approach. In that case, just be honest and blunt about how you feel.

This article is for the woman who doesn’t want to ruin a relationship with their stylist, but they know continuing to be their client is not working out. Overall, it is really about how you say it, your word choice, and not using an accusatory tone. If you stick to these tips, you most likely you will not have any issues with maintaining a cordial relationship with your stylist. Hopefully, by following these steps your stylist will understand and you both can move on.

Here are 4 Proven Ways to Care for 4C Hair!

Here are 4 Proven Ways to Care for 4C Hair! The Right Way :)

Dear Hair Lovers,

If you have 4c hair, I know you will relate to most of the struggles I will discuss in this article. 4c hair is beautiful and is a unique hair texture. Having 4c hair, means you don’t have a defined curl pattern. Your curls are not as visible as 4b, 4a, or 3c hair textures.  Every hair texture has its own struggle but 4C hair is a little different.

Here are 4 Proven Ways to Care for 4C Hair!

1) I Used to Struggle a lot with Fairy Knots

Here are 4 Proven Ways to Care for 4C Hair! The Right Way :)   Here are 4 Proven Ways to Care for 4C Hair! The Right Way :)

Almost every natural girl struggles with this menace, however, 4c girls struggle with this more because our curls are so tight. As my hair grew out from my big chop, I started to notice I was getting these single stranded knots more often. I started looking up ways to prevent them.  Most articles told me to just snip them off. If I snipped off every fairy knot in my hair, I’d be bald.

My solution:  I decided that I would stop doing wash and go’s because it increased the likelihood of getting fair knots. I also started getting trims and dustings more often. I noticed that my hair had a fewer fairy knots. Last but not least, I started twisting my hair before I went to sleep. Twisting my hair more often prevented my curls from intertwining into a fairy knot.

I still get fairy knots from time to time, but not nearly as much as before. Try my solution and you’ll see a big difference.

2) My Shrinkage was Excessive

Here are 4 Proven Ways to Care for 4C Hair! The Right Way :)

My curls are super tight because of my curl pattern, and my shrinkage showed it. My hair used to be to my lower neck, but my shrinkage made me look like I had a TWA. It was so frustrating not being able to show off my length.

My solution: I wear my hair in a pineapple or a twisted bun when I go to sleep. The tension allows my curls to stretch out and prevent the TWA look. Whenever I would go to bed with just a puff and a bonnet, my hair became very compressed which lead to more shrinkage.

3) My Hair seemed to Always be Dry

Here are 4 Proven Ways to Care for 4C Hair! The Right Way :)

4c is more fragile than other hair textures. It breaks off easier, it dries out faster, and it needs more TLC. I felt like I was always putting products in my hair. If I didn’t, it felt like a Brillo pad.

My solution: I changed the products I was using. I realized some of the products I was using had isopropyl alcohol as an ingredient.  I also started using more oil-based products and less water based products. I still used water based products, but I now alternate. I make sure that I put olive oil on my ends regularly. Olive oil helps lock moisture in the ends. Make sure you don’t put too many oil-based products in your hair – you will have a lot of build up. I only use it when my hair feels like it needs it. Listen to your hair; it will tell you what it needs.

Here are 4 Proven Ways to Care for 4C Hair! The Right Way :)

Overall, I’ve been natural for almost 3 years and I love my 4c hair. The key to managing 4c hair is making sure you give it extra love. You cannot afford to neglect 4c hair if you want it to be healthy. This hair type won’t let you!  Lastly, appreciate your 4c hair. You have a hair type you can literally do anything to. We’re lucky, our hair naturally can style into a perfect fro. It took me some time to love my 4c hair, but now that I know how to care for it, I love it so much! I hope you like my 4 PROVEN Ways to Care for 4C Hair. Click the comment box and tell me some of your Tips, Tricks and/ or Techniques to care for your 4C Hair!
